CYLINDER HEAD REPAIR
Our fully equipped machine shop facility, tooling and experienced engineers enable us to repair, recondition and remanufacture cylinder heads from any vehicle. Vintage, Classic, Modern including motorcycle, car, van, truck, tractor.
SERVICES:
- Cleaning and washing of cylinder heads and components
- Crack testing (MPI testing)
- Pressure testing
- Vacuum testing
- Head skimming (surface, re-surface, surface grind)
- Recondition and refacing of intake and exhaust valves
- Cut valve seats and lap valves
- Setting of Valve clearances
- Broken stud extraction and thread inserting
- Removing of Glowplugs
- Removing of broken bolts
- Removing of injectors
Cylinder head reconditioning process is where all the valve train components as well as the casting are machined or replaced
njector Extraction
Many new Common Rail Diesel engines are prone for the injectors becoming seized in the cylinder head.
We are equipped with the latest range of tooling and equipment for extracting injectors. Included in our equipment is the latest hydraulic extraction tool; including a hydraulic injector puller tool with pulling capabilities up to 35 tons.
We can remove the majority of injectors and have all of the required tooling to provide an economical repair.
We can also extract injectors that have been damaged such as if the threads have been damaged or broken off, even if the injector has snapped and is left with parts stuck in the cylinder head.
Glow Plug Extraction
Glow Plugs are also known as Heater Plugs.
Seized glow plugs usually occur due to carbon build up around the glow plug shaft.
We have invested in the latest glow plug removal equipment which has allowed us to offer a service of extracting seized, snapped / broken glow plugs with a very high success rate, without the need to remove the cylinder head from the vehicle, offering a quick and economical repair.
Bolts / Studs Extraction & Thread Repairs
We offer a service of repairing stripped threads, drill out broken off studs and bolts, remove broken nuts & bolts.
Exhaust and turbo manifold bolts that have been heated and cooled are sometimes difficult to remove.
Glow plugs, injectors, sump plugs, turbo manifold bolts, exhaust manifold bolts, brake calliper pins and bleed nipples that have been snapped or damaged can be re-tapped and heli-coiled or Time-Sert.
Spark erode any broken off taps – easy outs – drill bits in pieces of work if necessary.
This process is to meet the original engine manufacturer specification and to provide expected level of performance and reliability
Essentially restoring and giving life-span of the original. The process of reconditioning a cylinder head is as follows:
- The head is fully stripped down, all components checked and measured for wear, then ultrasonic cleaned to remove all oil and de-coked to remove any burnt on carbon.
- bare cylinder head is pressure tested ensure the casting is crack free and there are no imperfections and the casting which could cause water to leak out of the casting.
- Cylinder head surface is machined to ensure 100 percent true flatness
Valve guides are cleaned to inspect for for cracks and or wear. With modern cylinder heads, this step can be skipped as based on our experience as it is cost effective to simply replace the valve guides. Whereas with heads from classic and vintage engines it
All the valves are checked for bend and server pitted marks on the mating surface and replaced if necessary. I the original valves are in good condition then the faces will be machined.
The valve seats are checked for damaged, excessive wear and pitted marks and replaced where necessary. If the valve seats are in good condition then the faces will be machined.
All the valves are lapped into the cylinder head seats using a special compound paste to ensure perfect compression, and then the valves are assembled to the cylinder head using brand new valve stem oil seals.
Set the valve clearances which are done by one of the following two ways.
If fitted with hydraulic and roller follows then these components are check and replace as required.
If fitted with a bucket and a metal shim either on top of the bucket or underneath then the shim has to be machined as per the engine manufacturer’s specification.
We can accommodate single cylinder, 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, V8 to V16 cylinder heads for motorcycles, cars, commercials, plant and marine engines. Please enquire for a quotation.
What is cylinder head skimming?
Cylinder head skimming is a way to resurface a cylinder head. The head is set on a moving table, and a spinning fly cutter travels across. The cutter then precisely removes a small layer (roughly a thousand of an inch) to leave behind a smooth, and completely flat surface.
strip down the head pressure test it decoke it resurface it cut seats fit 16 new valves replace valve stem oil seals and build back up for you and deliver back to you
